Ragdoll története

The breed was bred in the early 1960s by Ann Baker, a Persian cat breeder. The Ragdoll was created by crossing a Persian female with a Burmese female.
Ann Baker, noticed Josephine, a stray Persian-Angora semi-long haired cat next to her neighbor. A female named Josephine was hit by a car during her pregnancy, but survived the accident, but her behavior changed, she became gentle and gentle. Her puppies also inherited this temperament from her. When several kittens with a tendency to relax were born in the next litter, Ann consciously started breeding. Focusing on gentle nature, relaxation and long fur. He included non-pedigree kandurs of Burmese character in the breeding. At the beginning of the breeding process, there was indeed inbreeding in order to develop preferred traits.
Baker, unusually, rejected breed associations. In 1971, he established his own breeding organization, the International Ragdoll Cat Association (IRCA), and introduced strict regulations to regulate the breeding and sale of the breed. It was forbidden to register the breed with another organization. IRCA still exists today, but is not a major organization, especially since Baker's death in 1997. The organization's cats are not accepted by any other cat organization or exhibition. In 1975, a married couple started breeding the breed with IRCA cats, but after separating from it, they managed to get the breed recognized by major cat organizations. The breed conquered the United Kingdom in the 60s, where breeders registered the breed from the very beginning. In 1994, another group of breeders in America took the courage to separate from the IRCA (because they did not agree with its strict regulations) and breed the breed, but at that time they could not use the original name of the breed for legal reasons, so they registered their cats as Ragamuffin. Since 2005, the name of the breed has not been owned by IRCA, since then it can be used by breeders worldwide.
